The 2 Frogs

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit.

When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all of their might.

The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead.

Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out.

When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time. This story teaches two lessons:

1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them. Be careful of what you say.

Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words....it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way.

Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times.

Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another.

Be special to others.

My School Posting

YEAR 2008....... a new beginning.

I have received my school posting for next year 2008.

Next year, I will be teaching at St Anthony's Canossian Sec. Nevertheless, I will miss all the students i have taught previously as they have made my teaching and learning experience a very enjoyable one. All the best to my students but this does not mean that we cannot still communicate :) Feel free to ask me anything....errr.....well almost anything...hopefully more to Maths and Bio :) but if there are any other issues......I'll see how i can help.

Enjoy your holidays....and prepare to take on the next year with more focus and renewed vigour for success!!

Sungei Buloh Last Entry

..the sign say " Do not feed people who act like monkeys"...err....sorryy...i mean " DO not feed the monkeys". yes thats sounds better doesn't it.

This is the area where you can see the migratory birds and many other types of birds. The mangrove swamps provide some excellent source of food for these birds.

The white thing you see in the pic are actually the white crane I think. Or is it the white egret. Anyway, this place will be totally filled with birds come Nov and Dec. The birds come from as far as Russia and China! SO if you want to see hundreds of different kinds of bird, come here sometime in Nov. But a word of caution. If you are a a little sick, please do not come here cause this bird might have...'bird flu virus' and if you are not well then you are more susceptible to these viruses. But if you are healthy and well...then no worries.

Ok...time to go home. Teachers to be, going home after a long journey in the reserve. :)

Sungei Buloh Part II

There is even internet access in Sungei Buloh. Amazing!

This roots is one of the reasons why, Bangladesh was not badly hit by the Tsunami waves. It act like shock absorbers. The mangrove swamp around Bangladesh actually protected the country! Unlike some countries which just have nice white beaches.

More of those aerial roots or what we call pneumatophores.

Capture this eagle flying above. Nice.

Hmm......these roots will make a good cane for my students.

..opsss just joking :)

By the way, charcoal comes from mangrove trees and everytime we eat satay, we are indirectly destroying the mangrove swamps! I am not saying 'dont eat satay' but we can help preserve the mangrove swamps by buying charcoal which comes from mangroves which are newly planted. (You can see them written at the front of the charcoal bags; but they are a little more expensive). Or eat satay that are electrically cooked! But of course it does not taste as good :) But at least we are saving the environment. :)

The entrance to the wetland reserve, SUNGEI BULOH. Nice eh ! :)

Saw the monitor lizard swimming towards us. Lucky it was not the crocodile. Yes there are croc here. They migrated from malaysia.

This is the plant where we get our 'attap chee' from. You know the transparent seed thing we like to eat last when we eat 'Ice Kacang'! :)

So mangrove plants are important. Without it, we will not have our attap chee!!!

Yup. this sign is for real no joke.

This is the biggest mud skipper i have ever seen! It is sun bathing i think :)

Sungei Buloh ( in malay means - Bamboo River) is Singapore's very few wet lands / mangrove swamps left. I will post some pictures of it soon and share with you some amazing stories I have learnt about the place, from tsunami to satay and mee rebus!! :)

A Motivational Story with Wisdom

..I dont usually write my thoughts down cos my life is a secret :))
But just this once...:)

....... I think, punggol sec is an ok sch dispite what ppl might say. So, I just might come back next year and be posted there on a permanent basis after my postgrad course...... At the end of the day, we can only try our best and pray for the best for our students. They are the one who have to decide and take the necessary action.

But then again, having said that, nothing in life is certain. I cannot be certain i will come back. Nevertheless, we must always help one another cos we are in this world together.

Wanna share a short story with all of you and hope it will be of benefit.

The Mouse Trap

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.
What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the sheep and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The sheep sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the sheep.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral; the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

The next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage and help one another.

To all the classes I have taught; 1C, 1N2 , 3N4 and 3N5, wishing you all the best for the future.

It was funny how one boy from 1N2 actually thought that the quotes that was given to the class was a PRESENT from me to the class! , and he said "so cheapskate" . Hahahahahaha.......I was laughing in my heart. I guess some students are still not matured enough to understand the intention behind my small 'gift'. It was meant to be a source of inspiration for my students should they face any obstacle in the future. Hope my small gesture can cheer them up when they are down, thats basically it. Not meant to be like an actual gift ! :) Anyway, ......until next time.......Ciao.

Teachers' Day

.......generally teachers feel very happy on teachers' day cos it is a day when we teachers take a break and let the students take a break too. But it is kind of strange today cos I am happy but at the same time sad. Happy cos the holiday is coming but genuinely sad cause today is my last day in in the sch.

I received a very special gift from 1C. A gift I will treasure. Really going to miss those bunch of kids. Special thanks to Jun Hao, Marilyn, Erica and Eileen for coming out with the scrap book idea. It was great! Also for the blogging lesson. It will still take me some time to learn this blog thingy......a little confusing sometime, but interesting :)

Anyway, 1C Thank you for all the wonderful gifts(Suzila & Si Jia and many others :) and beautiful memories. Remember........think highly of yourself, for the world takes you at your own estimate.
